"It Started With A Child"
The billboard read: "If Mary had had an abortion, we wouldn't be in this mess."
I was stunned. What twisted logic was this? If Jesus had not come, think what a mess this world would be. There would be no hope of a happy life here or a life with God for eternity. It all started with a child one special child.
Yes, Christmas started with a child. A baby was born. But this baby was born straight from heaven. He would grow as a child into manhood. He would live, but without sin. He would die and live again.
Matthew 1:18 says, "Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit."
Matthew 1:23 tells us, "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us."
And Matthew 2:11 says, "And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh."
It all started with a child.
In His ministry, Jesus gave great attention and great worth to a child.
Matthew 18: 2-5 gives this example: "Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, and said, Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me.'"
And, Scriptures refer to all of us who have received Jesus' gift as His children.
1 John 3:2 says, "Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is."
Christmas started with a child. We need to come with childlike faith. We are blessed to be the children of God.
As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, my prayer is taken from Revelation 22:20: "I Am coming quickly. He who testifies to these things says, Surely I am coming quickly.' Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!"
