One of the morning devotionals I read shared the following exercise. Try it and see whether this is true for you.
Sit on a chair and lift your right foot off the floor. Make clockwise circles with your right foot.
Continue with the clockwise foot circles and begin drawing the number 6 in the air with your hand.
Your foot changes direction. You can't stop it changing. You can't go two directions at the same time.
This is a physical happening, but it has spiritual value. The direction in which one part of you goes will pull the rest of you in that same direction.
You can move many parts of you closer towards Christ. Read the Bible and take a step closer. Spend time in prayer and you're another step closer.
But, if you decide to move closer to Christ, while neglecting to read the Bible and not acting like a Christian and being ashamed to share Jesus, most likely you won't actually move closer towards Christ. In fact, the distance could increase.
Physically, you can't walk in two directions. Spiritually, you can't either.
The Bible says that you can't serve two masters at the same time. You will love one and hate the other.
When you choose who you will serve and obey, that will determine the direction you will go. Choose wisely.
