Shelia Shares....
"Ordering Our Steps"

"The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way." Psalms 37:23.

Do you believe that all the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord? Do you believe your steps, big and little, are ordered by the Lord?

Saturday evening, Paul and I decided to take a walk. We got in the car to drive to Buchanan Park where we would start our four- mile walk. About 30 seconds from the garage, there were a few rain drops, quickly followed by a downpour. We turned around and went back to the house without walking a step.

Are a good man's steps ordered by the Lord?

If we had left the house five minutes earlier, we'd have been a good distance from our vehicle. We'd have been drenched before we could have reached the car again.

This past week we traveled to Pigeon Forge for the Singing News Fan Awards and the Southern Gospel Music Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremonies. Each year we have traveled to Tennessee on Tuesday, enjoyed the events on Wednesday, traveled about three hours into Virginia on Wednesday and then finished the trip home on Thursday.

This year I told Paul I couldn't handle a full day working the event and then traveling the same day until midnight to reach a lower Virginia motel. So we agreed to stay in Pigeon Forge all day Wednesday and leave early on Thursday morning for home.

As you may have heard, there was a horrific accident on Wednesday near the interchange of Interstates 40 and 81 with a bus blowing a tire and crossing the median clipping a SUV and hitting an 18-wheeler. Eight people were killed and more were injured. The road was closed from 2 p.m. on Wednesday until 5 a.m. on Thursday. (Our sympathies are with all the families involved in this accident.)

Although we would have traveled after the accident had occurred, we go through that I-40 and I-81 interchange. We would have been caught in the snarl of traffic or needed to find a back road around the accident site. Instead, we scheduled an extra interview that evening in our hotel room and left the next morning around 7 a.m., just a few hours after the road had again reopened.

Are a good man's steps ordered by the Lord?

We certainly don't understand the Lord's plans. We don't understand why one person is killed and another passes the same area with no problems. We know that good and bad come to Christians and non-Christians alike.

It is good to know that our steps are ordered by the Lord. He knows what will happen before it happens. He protects us from disaster or allows us to go through storms. Through all of life, He is never surprised by circumstances. He orders our steps, knowing the big picture of life. We need to continue to trust and to follow.
