Joan Malueg (a Wisconsin listener) wrote this poem several years ago and gave me permission to share it with you. Let's slow down, concentrate on spending time with people over the holidays and celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ this Christmas.
When Christmas rolls around this year as it most surely will,
Our "busy-ness" increases, just like the winter's chill.
We have to do our shopping for the trims and gifts galore.
We have to do our baking, so there's more trips to the store.
There's cards to buy, address and mail, before the special day
So folks will know we think of them while they're so far away.
Once Thanksgiving is over, it's time to trim the tree
And decorate our homes and yards so everyone can see
That Christmas is arriving, and there's so much to do!
The time is running out so fast Lord, help me to get through!
And while I've got You on my mind, please help me to recall
That all those things that wear me out don't matter much at all.
Please help me to remember that there's only one real reason
For celebrating Your birthday, it's the reason for the season!
So when I get depressed because the work's not getting done,
Just remind me often of Your love for me and for everyone.
Give me the strength and patience that I need from day to day
And keep me close to you in prayer, as I work and as I play.
You came here as a Baby, in a stable long ago
To show the world that God could be like man, and He would know
The problems we encounter, the fears, the joy, the pain,
And from the manger to the cross You've known all loss and gain.
Lord, be with us this December, and help us all to see
That Christmas is Your Gift to us, now and eternally.
