Shelia Shares....

Most people in our area could tell you where they were just before 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2011.

I was at my desk. I heard what I thought was rain or hail and strong winds. My first thought was a sudden tornado. But, when I stood to look outside, I saw no evidence of wind or rain. It was a clear day. I did, however, feel my legs shaking – or rather the floor beneath my legs shaking. It was an earthquake.

When the shaking ended and TV reports confirmed it was an earthquake, we tried to settle back to work in the office. As the office staff chatted about after shocks or whether it was a precursor to a larger quake, we started joking about being prepared for the next earthquake. We joked about leaving our shoes and socks on as we slept that night. That escalated into remaining fully dressed so we could run out of the house quickly. From there it moved to having a bag packed ready to grab on our way out and then to packing a backpack and wearing it all night ready to go along with two flashlights by my hands. (These all sounded like good ideas to me!)

The joking really talked about being prepared should another earthquake hit our area.

The Bible passage from Mark 13: 8 came to my mind. It reads, "For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers [various] places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows."

Jesus said that wars and spiritual battles and earthquakes and famines are signs of the approach of the end times. Are we reading the signs of the times? Spiritually do we remain "fully dressed?" Do we have our bags packed? Do we have our flashlights ready? Are we thinking about our escape plans? Have we read the "escape" manual?

There is not a lot of warning for an earthquake.

The Bible has given plenty of warning for the end times. Christians should be able to see the end approaching. Are you ready?

The "trumpet" is already out of the "case."
