"Coming At Christmas"
Christmas a time to remember when Jesus came to earth. What a momentous time that arrived so quietly. It arrived without fanfare. It seemed just like any other day. A baby was born just like so many babies are born each day.
I can imagine the excitement of Mary and Joseph as they held and watched this perfect little baby boy. They must have felt pride. There was that parental awe that says "we've created this wonderful being." There was a feeling of awesome responsibility to nurture and raise this child to be all that he can be.
But, Mary and Joseph knew something unique to this child's birth. The angel had come to each of them and they knew this was no ordinary child. The angel had told them that this child was conceived of the Holy Ghost. Scripture reports that "Mary treasured all these things in her heart." I can't fathom this additional joy (and uncertainty) to hold this wonderful baby.
Christmas is a time of coming. Jesus came to earth as a part of God's plan. His birth was planned and it happened.
There is another foretold coming. Jesus will come again. We don't know when it will happen, but we do know it will happen. It's another part of the same plan of God that He knew from the beginning.
This will not be a quiet coming, although it will be unexpected for those who aren't prepared ("as a thief in the night" - 1st Thessalonians 5:2). This time the coming will be with trumpet sound ("for the trumpet shall sound" - 1st Corinthians 15:52). If we are ready, it will be a joyous time. There will be a feeling of awe. There will be celebration. There will be victory ("But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ - 1st Corinthians 15:57)
As I think of Christmas, I can't help but think it would be a wonderful time for Jesus Christ to come again. His birth was the most precious gift ever given. His coming again will be just as precious for the prepared Christian.
We don't know the time of His reappearing, but I'm ready to accept that second gift and go along to heaven.
Accept the first gift of Jesus birth and salvation fulfilled. Be prepared for His second gift of life eternal. This is surely the best gift of all and it's on my Christmas list! Is it on yours?
