Paul's Epistle
"IF/THEN Promises"

Back in the 1980s I did some computer programming in Basic. (Of course, things were a lot simpler back then.) But one of the most useful bits of code that I used frequently was an IF/THEN statement. Simply put, you'd instruct the computer to perform a certain action if a particular condition, such as the striking of a particular key, came to exist.

The Bible is full of IF/THEN statements. One well-known IF/THEN statement is found in 2nd Chronicles 7:14: "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

This is a promise from God. God is not a politician — He doesn't lie1. If that's what He says He will do, that's exactly what He will do. And although this particular IF/THEN statement was directed toward Israel for that nation's benefit, God's principles never vary.

But the "if" is the difficult part. Re-read that verse. "Humble themselves?" "Pray?" "Seek my face?" "Turn from their wicked ways?"

That's a tall order. But look at the promised results if we actually do that! "Then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

No Christian can honestly say our land doesn't need healing. It always has. But look around. Things morally and spiritually just keep getting worse. And Christian morals, not to mention Christianity itself, are under increasing attack as never before from Hollywood and their willing liberal accomplices. They applaud infanticide (murder) in the form of abortion, elevating it as a "right" above the Constitution's right to life.  (Can you figure out that non sequitur?)  They applaud and even encourage "alternate lifestyles" which God specifically commanded against. They not only reject any mention of God, they ridicule and cast scorn upon those of us who dare to mention His name in public. You've heard it recently — we've been called "sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, islamaphobic" — and worse — for not being "politically correct."

We must take God at His word. Let's do what He asks us to do. Let's pray, especially, for this coming crucial election. Do it NOW! And then let God use you as His "hands" as you vote.

And then watch God do what He says He will do!
