| From the broadcast
the weekend of June 16th & 17th, 2012: |
More than 70 countries around the world observed this weekend as Father's
Day, a number that, frankly, surprised me. (Other countries celebrate
at other times.) So, except for the Featured Artist visits, all of our
music and artist comments were on the theme of fathers and fatherhood. Some
spoke of their fathers. Some spoke of their role as a father. Others (especially
some of the songs) spoke of our Heavenly Father. We had a lot of exceptional
material this year. Mark Bishop's thoughts about being the father
of the bride this year fit in perfectly with that song of his called "I
Remember Her Well." The amazing part is that he wrote that song several
years ago anticipating the very thing that's happening this year giving
away his daughter in marriage (this December). McCray Dove's story
about his song "He Made A Change In Me" being his dad's life story
in three minutes was also special. And, did you like Squire Parsons'
story about the special hat he took on stage at the NQC last year?
Our Featured Artists on this program
were the quartet known as Driven from near Charlotte, NC. Today's
group includes Jason Funderburk (owner, manager and lead singer),
Chad Smith (baritone), Will Lane (bass) and Wesley Smith
(tenor). Songs we included on this program were from their "Crucified
With Christ" CD. Three of the songs included were covers of old favorites
(two by the Cathedrals and one by the Gaither Vocal Band). But the other
one was a brand new song called "What The Sea Saw." (I'm surprised
that one hasn't been pushed for radio; if it has, I missed it.)
Driven's CD featured on this program, "Crucified With Christ,"
is available from our mailorder service, Springside. Just call 1-800-38-MUSIC
to order. You can order easily from our webstore by

By the way, Driven is currently in the studio working on a brand new
recording. Danny Funderburk (Jason's father) is producing it and
Andrew Ishee is on keyboards.
