In the 30-plus years
I've known Ed O'Neal of the Dixie Melody Boys, I've always
felt his group the Dixie Melody Boys never really got the attention
they deserved. They've been (and are) better than the attention they've received.
Ed has always had an exceptional group, usually of relatively young men who
would get their training with this quartet. The "Ed O'Neal University" has
graduated a lot of singers who today are well-known with other groups.
McCray Dove of the Dove Brothers is a notable example. As is Rodney
Griffin of Greater Vision. In fact, their CD that we featured
"The Call Is Still The Same" includes the voices of several
of these former members of the DMB, all of whom were enthusiastic about honoring
Ed and the Dixie Melody Boys on the group's 50th anniversary. Their new CD
is an excellent starting point for the rest of the DMB's career.
The Dixie Melody Boys' CD featured on this program, "The Call Is
Still The Same," is available from our mailorder service, Springside.

The Skyline Boys our Artist Spotlight
guests were organized as a quartet back in September of 1995. And
they've been going strong ever since. As you heard on the air, they're keeping
quite busy traveling and singing the Gospel. Today's group includes Dennis
Powers, Jerry Skaggs, Chris Little and Toby Siler. The mission
statement of the Skyline Boys Quartet, as posted on their website, gives
three imperatives: "(1) Deliver the message of the gospel according to
our calling. (2) Give the audience the opportunity to respond to the message
of the gospel. (3) Do the best we can in our presentation of the gospel and
our singing." More info about the Skyline Boys can be found
at their website.
On the Headline Update I mentioned the new
American Society of Gospel Music (ASGM). It's a new member-based website
connection Gospel music artists and fans. There are artist and group discussion
boards, live and interactive web events and online concerts, all allowing
artists to reach a worldwide audience and fans to feel closer to the artists
than ever before. Among their most-publicized events so far have been a webinar
with Michael Booth about Gospel music and a Booth Brothers
Christmas concert online. It's worth looking into. Here's their website:

what you think.
