| From the broadcast
the weekend of June 12th & 13th, 2010: |
Our Featured Artists
on this program were the Primitive Quartet. As you heard them discuss
on the program, their style is not really bluegrass (although a lot of people
lump them into that category). It's simply the kind of harmony singing they
were raised on in the hills of the Great Smoky Mountains. And it remains
a favorite today among many loyal fans. Songs on this program were from their
current "I'm Looking Through New Eyes" CD, including that title song.
You never have to search for the message in a Primitive Quartet song, and
I like that. We included a song called "The Precious Blood of Jesus,"
and that's clealy what it's all about. Reagan Riddle's song "Dear
Loved One" is a good reminder to each of us to pass on a solid Christian
testimony to the next generation (and beyond).
Information about the Primitive Quartet's annual summertime Singing
In Hominy Valley can be found on their website,
www.primitivequartet.com. The
dates are June 30-July 5 at their Hominy Valley Music Park near Candler,
NC.
The Primitive Quartet has graciously provided 70 of their recent CDs
(various titles) for listeners of The Gospel Greats program. Thanks
to the Primitive Quartet for providing these prizes!

It's been a long time since
we had the chance to visit with the Telestials, so I'm glad we got
to do it on this program's Artist Spotlight segment. Based in Hendersonville,
TN, this group today consists of Jim and Beth Glass, Jerry
and Bethany Brown, Caleb Brown and Scott Lucas.
"I Can Call Jesus" is the title of their current CD, from which you
heard their two most recent radio songs, "Free" and
"Everything." "What a hope to be reminded that when Jesus died on
the cross, He gave us everything," says lead singer Scott Lucas. More
info about the Telestials can be found at their website,
www.telestials.com.
On the Headline Update I mentioned that noted singer/songwriter Phil
Cross is inviting contributions to help his youngest son, Gavin,
minister in Venezuela, under the auspices of Campus Crusade for Christ.
He speaks in classrooms, hosts an "English Corner," participates in outreach
parties and communicates his faith one-on-one. Gavin writes, "I will also
be discipling students in their faith and providing translation assistance
when necessary." Phil provides these instructions for tax-deductible
gifts: go to www.give.ccci.org and,
in the "Gift A Gift" box, type "Gavin Cross" or account number 5564492. Checks
can be made payable to Campus Crusade for Christ and mailed to Student Venture,
PO Box 882, Hixon TN 37343.

NOTE: The deadline for online entries for
the Primitive Quartet CD giveaway has passed.
