the weekend of June 5th & 6th, 2010: |
During our Featured Artists visits with the
Gaither Vocal Band on this program, many of the comments revolved
around the pleasing "chemistry" of the present conbination of individuals
and voices. They sing together well, they work together well. And I think
that's a valid commentary. Bill Gaither certainly has brought together
some exceptional talent in Wes Hampton, David Phelps, Michael English
and Mark Lowry. Anyone who's seen them in concert could certainly
vouch for all of the above. Songs you heard on the program were from their
live-in-concert "Better Day" CD (which is also available in video
form on DVD).
By the way, before Michael English joined the Gaither Vocal Band
for the first time years ago, he sang with the Singing Americans and
the Happy Goodmans, but everyone knew him then as "Mike," not Michael.
He says he can tell right away how long someone has known him by whether
they refer to him as "Mike" or "Michael."
The Gaither Vocal Band's CD featured on this program, "Better
Day," is available from our mailorder service, Springside. Just call

As you heard on our Artist Spotlight segment, the
Gann Brothers are celebrating their 30th annivesary as a group this
year. Today's group includes Phil Gann, Kyle Peddie and Craig
Pippin. This is a new configuation, since Phil's brother, Calvin,
left the group more than a year ago to sing with his own family. Phil's been
there since the beginning, of course, and Kyle's been there for several years.
Craig, the "newcomer," really isn't, because he was with the group before
for several years, as you heard. So it's all coming together, and the group's
new CD title, "Revived," really does seem appropriate. As you heard
Phil say, they really do have a new sense of excitement about what they do,
thanks to the new vocal blend. By the way, after the songs were chosen for
this broadcast, the Gann Brothers selected their first radio single from
the "Revived" CD and it's one I didn't happen to use. So you'll
be hearing "I Never Shall Forget The Day" (which is a new song, not
the classic) on a later broadcast.
I'm sure you know someone
close to you who has had cancer, and probably someone who's died from it.
When Brad Kerstetter of Pennsylvania's Kerstetter Family dropped
by our studio recently for a brief interview, it was amazing to see that,
despite doctors giving him almost no time at all remaining in this life,
he is still traveling and singing the Gospel with his family. And that's
exactly what he plans to do, as long as he is physically able. As you heard
him say, he's doing it because, simply, this is what God has called him to
do. I asked Brad how he would likes folks to pray for him: "Well, I'd
really like to be healed, but most importantly I want God's will to be done
in our lives because He does know what's best for us and He knows
what lies in store. And so I guess [the prayer would be] for God's will to
be done in my life and for me to have peace and strength to get through this."
That's something we each should pray for ourselves and our loved ones,
but it's especially poignant coming from someone in Brad's situation. Please,
if you would, send Brad a note of encouragement. You can do it through the
"contact" page on their website,
www.kerstetters.com.
