| From the broadcast
the weekend of May 1st & 2nd, 2010: |
I don't know about you, but I greatly enjoy the old hymns of the church.
There was so much lyric depth there, based on Scriptural principles and,
often, even the language of Scripture. That's why we tried an All-Hymns
Edition one year ago. Based on the great response to that program, we
decided to do it again this year and that's what this particular broadcast
was. If you grew up in church, you no doubt felt right at home and
probably caught yourself singing along as you listened to these great
old hymns. I'm so glad that in recent years more of today's artists have
been recording the old hymns, recognizing that they are still much-loved.
It is truly lamentable that this rich heritage is being overlooked or lost
in many of today's churches.
One of today's group paying tribute to the old
hymns of the church are the Browns, who were our Featured Artists on this
program. We used songs, appropriately enough, from their current CD entitled
"Heritage Hymn Collection, Vol. 1." I was glad to see that "Vol. 1"
tacked on there, because that means there will be more to come! Two separate
stories recounted on this program show the generational influence of old
hymns. Shelly Brown related about her grandma's favorite hymn and
Michaela Brown told the story of her grandma's favorite.

Hymn Collection, Vol. 1," is available from our mailorder service,
