From the program the weekend of Jan. 2nd & 3rd, 2010:

This was the concluding half of our two-part "Gospel 2009 In Review" special, counting-down the forty most popular Southern Gospel songs of 2009 and visiting with the artists associated with every one of those songs. "Thank you" to all of you who have already let me know how much you enjoyed this special presentation. Now it's on to 2010!

Here's a fun quiz. If you heard the program the past two weeks you will know the answers to these trivia questions. See if you can come up with the correct responses, which are given below (no peeking!)...

  1. Only one artist/group had three songs on the 2009 full-year top 40 chart. Who were they?
  2. How many other artists each had two songs in the top 40 full-year chart? (Bonus points: how many can you name?)
  3. What magazine compiles the chart that we use for the year-end countdown?
  4. Two songwriters each are credited with writing or co-writing as many as four songs on the full-year Top 40. Who are they?
  5. Who were the "winningest" artists in the 2009 Singing News Fan Awards?
  6. What 2009 top 40 song had the same title as a James Bond movie?
  7. What 2009 top 40 song had been recorded under another title in 2006, but was reworked and became a hit in 2009?
  8. "The Cloud He's Coming Back On" was a major hit for the Kingsmen in 2009. What major group originally recorded that song back in 1983? (Bonus: who wrote it?)
  9. What major group started 2009 as a quartet and soon became a quintet?
  10. Which original member of the McKameys retired in 2009?
  11. What family group found a wife donating a kidney to her husband (both of them singers) in 2009?
  12. What 2009 top 40 "song" includes no singing?
  13. Eric Phillips left the Mark Trammell Trio to pursue what profession?
  14. In the forty-year history of the Singing News charts, only two female soloists had number one songs. Who was the female soloist to accomplish this in 2009?

Here are answers:

  1. The Kingdom Heirs.
  2. Ten. They are the Talley Trio, the Whisnants, Mike & Kelly Bowling, Gold City, the Perrys, Ernie Haase & Signature Sound, Greater Vision, the Kingsmen and the McKameys.
  3. Singing News.
  4. Rodney Griffin and Marty Funderburk.
  5. The Booth Brothers (with eight awards).
  6. Die Another Day (Brian Free & Assurance).
  7. "King's Kid" by the Browders. They previously recorded it as "Poor Boy."
  8. The Happy Goodman Family. Writer: James Payne.
  9. The Gaither Vocal Band. (Members now are Bill Gaither, Wes Hampton, Michael English, Mark Lowry and David Phelps.)
  10. Carol Woodard, one of the original McKamey sisters.
  11. The Greenes. (Taranda Greene donated a kidney to her husband, Tony Greene, who had been in total kidney failure.)
  12. "The Funeral of Jesus" by Milton "Big MO" Ostrander. It's a narration over backgrouond music.
  13. Law enforcement. (OK, that was a difficult question.)
  14. Janet Paschal with "Hide Me Sweet Rock of Ages" which went to number one in August, 2009.
