| From the program
aired the weekend of Feb. 16th & 17th, 2008: |
This was Week #3 of our 2008 Great
Annual Giveaway. Remember that you can enter once for each of the four
weeks, and that improves your chances of winning one of the monthly prizes
including the Grand Prize, the next Singing At Sea Cruise plus
$1,000 cash! On-time weekly entries also put you in the running for
the additional weekly prizes. (The Week #1 winners have been drawn and
the 100 CDs have been mailed.) We'd really like to hear from you. All
of the information you need to know to enter can be found
on our website. The exception is that you must
listen to the program to find out the "Key Word" to validate your
entry. This Key Word changes each week. If you missed an earlier program,
ask around. That does two things. First, someone might know it and tell you
what it was so you can enter. And this helps promote the program,
which we certainly appreciate.
This
was one of our occasional All Listener Favorites Editions. I really
enjoy having these programs on which you our listeners get
the chance to introduce your favorite song. I especially appreciate it when
the caller mentions concisely why the song has meant so much personally.
Each of the callers whose introductions were used on the air will get a $10
Southern Gospel music gift certificate from our mailorder service, Springside.
And a special "congratulations" to Andrew Stephens of Anderson, SC,
for being our $50 gift certificate winner for this All Listener Favorites
edition.
Our Featured Artists on this broadcast were the Tribute Quartet, based
in Nashville, TN. They are Gary Casto (lead), Josh Singletary
(baritone and pianist), Dennis Dugger (bass) and Jacob Kitson
(tenor). Songs featured on this program were from their current
"Anticipation" CD. "When Those Gates Open Wide" has been their
recent radio song and has been getting a lot of good attention for this quartet.
Of course, as I mentioned on the program, that song fits the
"Anticipation" theme quite well. Songs of encouragement for the Christian
are so common in Southern Gospel music, and it's a good thing because
"encouragement" is something we all need on a daily basis. And this CD is
full of encouraging songs. As Gary says, "It is this group's desire to
offer Southern Gospel music at its finest to encourage and inspire the audiences
to whom we sing." What's more, "It is the goal of Tribute Quartet
to carry on the grand tradition that is Southern Gospel music, and do it
in a way that respects those who have carried this Gospel torch before us,
while at the same time producing our own fresh and unique sound." And
in their few short years as Tribute Quartet, they've gone a long way toward
doing just that.
The Tribute Quartet's CD featured on this program,
"Anticipation," is available from our mailorder service, Springside.

On
the Headline Update I reported about the recent fire which destroyed
the Whisnants' radio station in Morganton, NC, WCIS. It also housed the offices
and warehouse for the singing group. A local news account of the fire (including
photo)
can
be found here. As John Whisnant (Jeff's brother and operator
of the station) told the local newspaper, "The Lord does all things well
and I believe when all is said and done, WCIS will be bigger and better.
We can't see it right now. If we could, we wouldn't need faith." Susan
Whisnant says they have been overwhelmed with support from other artists
as well as from radio stations, both locally and around the country who heard
about it (including several The Gospel Greats affiliates). Please
keep the Whisnants in your prayers as they, with God's help, work
through a very difficult time.
