| From the program
aired the weekend of Feb. 9th & 10th, 2008: |
This was one of those broadcasts where there
was just so much going on! And I loved it!
First, it was Week #2 of our 2008
Great Annual Giveaway. If you haven't entered yet, please do so. I'd
sure like to be able to send you a CD in the mail one of the weekly
prizes. Or a Singing News subscription/extension. Or I'd love to call
you some day soon and tell you that you've won the Singing at Sea Cruise
plus $1,000 cash! That cruise, by the way, will be in February, 2009,
so you have almost a full year to anticipate it and arrange your schedule
accordingly. What's more, since Templeton Tours is combining two of their
cruises into one, the Singing at Sea becomes (as they're now billing it)
the world's largest Southern Gospel music cruise! Complete entry information
is found on our website, including a convenient
online entry form. But please remember that in order to enter you must know
the "Key Word" which was announced on the program. (The Key Word
changes for each of the four weeks.)
Second,
this was our annual Love Theme edition coming, as it does,
just before Valentine's Day. All of our songs (other than Featured Artist
selections) were about love God's love for us, our love for God and
our Christian love for one another. It's really a pleasure finding and sharing
such "Gospel love songs" because there are so many good ones. After all,
the Bible tells us God is love. So "love" is part of the essence of
His character. Amazing! And reassuring!
Our Featured Artists on this program were the Whisnants with songs
from their "Promises" CD. Included, of course, was their current radio
song, "The Light Of The Lamb." After this program was recorded, the
radio station that the Whisnants own in Morganton, North Caroline (WCIS)
was burned to the ground in the middle of the night by, apparently, a burglar
to cover his tracks. You'll hear more about this on a future broadcast, but
not only did the Whisnants lose their station (they're promising to rebuild
and return to the air quickly) but the Whisnants (the singing group) lost
quite a bit of their recorded product (CDs ad DVDs) which had been stored
at the station. Please remember the Whisnants in your prayers for wisdom
in how they rebuild.
As I share this about the fire, I am reminded of one of the songs I played
on this program by the Whisnants, "The Past Is A Promise." You heard
Jeff say that he's only 43 but has lived long enough to see God prove His
faithfulness: "God has a good track trecord and [the song] talks about
how our past and His past is a promise that He's going to meet every need
we have in the future.... I go back to each prayer He answered for me. He's
answered prayer after prayer after prayer... So I look back and the past
is a promise that I'll have all that I need, because He's proved Himself
over and over again." These are words Jeff and the rest of the Whisnant
family can live by as they go through these difficult times.
The
Whisnants' CD featured on this program, "Promises," is available
from our mailorder service, Springside. Just call 1-800-38-MUSIC to order.
You can order easily from our webstore by

USA qualify for free shipping.)
As you heard on the Headline Update, former Florida
Boys member Josh Garner is now a solo artist, despite erroneous stories
that had circulated about him joining various quartets. (He had been doing
some fill-in work.) Josh is available for solo concerts and does emcee
work, too. You can check his website at
www.joshgarnermusic.com.
I mentioned on this broadcast that the program that aired the weekend of
Feb. 2nd was the 28th anniversary of The Gospel Greats program.
Wow where have those 28 years gone!? God has been very good, because
we have never not once missed distributing a broadcast during
those 28 years. As we now move into our 29th year, we're counting, more than
ever, on God's continued faithfulness. And we're thankful, more than ever,
for folks like you who listen each week and share with us your kind notes
of encouragement. We couldn't do it without you.
