aired the weekend of Jan. 12th & 13th, 2008: |
For our first "regular" edition of 2008, our Featured Artists
were the Freemans, with songs from their current "Eyes On The
Prize" CD. Both Darrell and Chris Freeman have been invovled
in music most of their lives. Darrell started at age 16 with his familys
group, the Pathways, and Chris began singing during her teen years
with the Hinsons, where she won the Queen of Gospel Music
award two years in a row (76, 77) as voted by the readers of
Singing News Magazine. In 1980, the lives of Darrell and Chris Freeman
joined when they married on August 2nd. After singing with the Pathways for
three years Darrell and Chris headed for Nashville and began the Freemans.
Joe Freeman, Darrells cousin, soon joined them as the third
part harmony, as well as their keyboard player. In 1997, Darrell and
Chriss daughter, Misty, began playing acoustic guitar with the
group on stage. And they've been making music together ever since. More
information about the Freemans' history is found on their website,
www.the-freemans.com.
On this program you heard their big #1 hit from last year, "He Chose
Me," a remarkable song. You also heard their new radio single with the
most unusual title, "I Need A Drink." I'm glad Chris and Darrell had
a chance on the program to explain what that's all about.
The Freemans' CD featured on this program, "Eyes On The Prize,"
is available from our mailorder service, Springside. Just call 1-800-38-MUSIC

As you know, because of our holiday programming, including the two-part
"Gospel 2007 In Review" the weekends before and after New Year's,
we don't do a regular January Top 20 countdown edition. But on this program
we did a special mini-countdown of the top five for January. Our February
Top 20 countdown edition will be right on schedule the weekend of January
26th.
Southern Gospel music fans have been enjoying the Booth Brothers for
years. Now Ronnie and Michael are each giving fans a chance
to hear how they sound individually with solo recordings. Ronnie's is the
first to come out and you got to hear a few of his songs on this broadcast's
Artist Spotlight segment. I love his current radio song, "I Would." What
a wonderful message that song has counched in its simple story. If you've
ever wondered what Ronnie Booth sounded like when he first started singing,
now you know, having heard "Fill My Cup Lord 1973/2007" which includes
some of his signing from age eight. By the way, Michael's solo recording
will come out a bit later and he promises it'll be the greatest thing you
ever heard. Of course.
Ronnie Booth's self-titled solo CD, "Ronnie Booth," is available
from our Springside webstore, and we'll extend the 20 percent Featured Artist
discount to this CD as well through January 18th. Just follow the rules given
above. Here's
a direct link to the CD in our webstore.
Please remember that January is Station Appreciation Month on
The Gospel Greats program. See above for details. But please be sure
to thank the station on which you hear our program for bringing it to you
each week. That'll help keep The Gospel Greats program coming your
way.
