aired the weekend of Oct. 27th & 28th, 2007: |
Our Featured
Artists on this edition of The Gospel Greats program were the
Browders. They're been singing since about 1990, as you heard on the
program, releasing songs to radio since the early 90s. Today's group includes
Tommy Browder, his sons Matthew and David, and Matthew's
wife, Sonya. Their current hit, "Stand Up For Jesus," has been
getting more attention for this group than ever before, hitting the top 10
in October. Their current CD is called "Be A Light," the title song
of which is another good message, as you heard on this broadcast. As you
heard, too, Tommy has been in a wheelchair for several years, and that's
why their song "Waitin' On My Change" is so special for them and so
touching for their audiences. More information about the Browders can be
found on their website,
www.thebrowders.com.

This was our official Singing News Top 20 Countdown edition for
this month, counting down the Top 20 as it appears in the magazine's November
issue now being circulated. Singing News magazine compiles their chart
by surveying radio stations nationwide that play Southern Gospel music to
determine local favorites, based on the amount of airplay songs receive.
On the
Headline Update you heard about this year's recent inductions in the
SGMA's Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge,
Tennessee. Charlie Waller managed to produce another very special
event, remembering those who've gone before in Southern Gospel music and
paying tribute to several living leaders in the Southern Gospel music community.
If you've never visited the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame and Museum,
please do so at your first opportunity. Charlie and his crew have managed
to pull together an outstanding collection of memorabilia chronicling the
history of Southern Gospel music and the people who've made it what it is
today. (There's even some history there from The Gospel Greats program.
The studio they have set up uses my first broadcast production board and
one of the turntables that I used for the first 14 years of the broadcast.)
Gospel music's ever-vigilant photographer, Aaron Crisler, snapped
a photo of me working in the sound booth during the awards ceremony (seen
at right, courtesy of
gospelmusicupdate.com).
My recording of the event was the only recording made for radio.
