aired the weekend of Oct. 6th & 7th, 2007: |
Our Featured Artists on this program were Greater Vision
with songs from their new "Everyday People" CD. Greater Vision is
one of those "solid" groups you can always count on to be "solid" in their
on-stage presentation, "solid" in their recording and "solid" as individuals.
And they're taking their brand of Southern Gospel music into some of the
biggest churches in America, notably Dr. Charles Stanley's church in Atlanta,
where they've appeared numerous times. They are favorites, too, in areas
not generally thought of as Southern Gospel areas, such as a recent sell-out
crowd in New York state where we heard them greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
Gerald Wolfe is a masterful emcee and Rodney Griffin is a top-notch
songwriter (Singing News "Favorite Songwriter" again this year for
the 9th time). And their personable and gifted tenor Jason Waldroup is
a perfect fit with the rest of this group.
On the broadcast you heard Gerald say that this new recording of theirs,
"Everyday People," is a bit different musically than most of their
recent recordings. Their recent works have been richly orchestrated for a
"huge" sound. But on this one they stepped back to the way Greater Vision
used to record, with simple instrumentation. It's a nice change. But I'm
not sure fans would even notice if it hadn't been mentioned because, well,
it's simply Greater Vision. And even this musical direction fits with their
"Everyday People" theme. I especially appreciate their new radio single,
"It Means Just What It Says." What a refreshing message in times when
some question everything the Bible says.

Oh, here's a bonus. On the program I think I mentioned that Greater
Vision's new "Hymns Of The Ages" CD won't be released to bookstores
and most other retailers until next year. That's true. But through a special
arrangement, we have that new CD available for you right now. Just

for that CD.
Thanks to everyone who called our Listener Favorites Call-In Line on
Sunday. We're planning an All Listener Favorites edition to air the
weekend of Oct. 20th.

I enjoyed chatting with Ed O'Neal of the Dixie Melody Boys
on the Artist Spotlight segment and especially enjoyed their new versions
of the old songs I played. Since the broadcast was recorded, and in response
to some inquiries, we've been able to add their "Smooth and Easy"
CD to our webstore.
